Updates
Writers Notebook can check for new releases and download them for you, so you don't have to watch the releases page manually.
Checking for updates
The app can check the official release source to see whether a newer version is available. When one is found, an update dialog tells you what's new and offers to download it.
Downloading an update
- When an update is available, the app shows the details in an update dialog.
- Choose a download location: it defaults to your system Downloads folder, and you can pick another with the folder picker.
- Start the download. Progress is shown as it runs, and the app remains usable while it downloads in the background.
- When the download finishes, you can open the downloaded file's location to run the installer or replacement binary.
Installing the update
Because the app downloads the new release rather than replacing itself in place, you finish the update the same way you did the original install for your platform. See Installation for the per-platform steps (macOS .dmg, Windows installer/portable, or the Linux install script).
Releases are not code-signed, so your operating system may show a warning the first time you run a new version. Installation explains how to allow it on each platform.
